Warrington North MP hits back in Peel Hall developer row

LABOUR councillors have hit back at the comments from Peel Hall developers Satnam Millennium who said they were disappointed politicians had not met with them.

Warrington North MP Helen Jones along with Poplars and Hulme’s Clr John Kerr-Brown, Clr Steve Roberts, Brian Maher and Poulton North Clr Billy Lines-Rowlands have spoken out.

The company, who want to build up to 150 homes on land off Windermere Avenue, last week said they were let down by the lack of talks from politicians against their scheme.

But Ms Jones said: “Satnam seem unable to understand the simple fact that there is no room for negotiation on this matter.

“I am opposed to any development on the site and the vast majority of the public in the area who will be most affected are opposed to it.

“I made a pledge to my voters that I would oppose any plans for development at Peel Hall and I intend to stick to that pledge.

"That is my publicly stated position and I would have thought it self evident that there is nothing to talk about.

“I fail to see what is so difficult for them to grasp with that position.”

The councillors also issued a joint statement: “We fought elections on the basis that we would oppose developing Peel Hall.

"The public living in the area have indicated, in massive numbers and on several occasions, that they are opposed to any development and we will continue to reflect the views of the people who elected us.”

The town's Euro MEP has also put his weight behind the objections to this development, but still no word from David Mowat.

Is it appropriate for David Mowat to comment? It's not his constituency.

He could show some unison with his fellow mp for warrington even if not his constuency. It is still part of the town he co-represents but he just maybe is too busy playing trains still.

I think that's unfair Cleo. If I were him, I'd be careful about whether to express opinions about what happens in other constituencies.

Accepted. But we have had so much trouble and still have with planning issues in the borough that cross party collaboration might well be the trigger to restore openness and transparency in place of concealment and complacency. I find it hard to accept that all the planning problems only occur in one half of the borough.

I live in the area and the land they want to build on is farm land and 150 homes, not a chance they will build more once the foots in the door as they say, plus the field they want to upgrade belongs to the council, and why should winwick football club benefit from this when it affects thoses in orford and cinnamon brow,
