High tide hits Warrington town centre High tide hits Warrington town centre

THE Mersey left an impression on the town centre on Wednesday as an unusually high tide left a footpath near Bridge Foot unpassable with flood waters.

Was thinking exactly the same.

I remember as kids we'd often walk on the wall to get through the flooding. Probably not the brightest thing to do but we got up to all sorts including playing in the nearby Snot rag (Gartons) factory and the Bonk (Buses only, No Kids).

Slow news day I presume, Last week you were taking photos of traffic out the office window, This week your photographers managed to get out of the building and walk the whole 5 meters to score this scorcher of a story.

FACE PALM. Who ever is paying you, There paying too much.

As the height of a tide is regulated by the moon and the sun and as far as I am aware, the moon has not shifted in its orbit or the earth in its orbit around the sun , then any "unusual" level of water must be due to factors other than the tide itself.

Another classic non-story from The Guardian, complete with the ultimate sensationalising header.

'High Tide Hits Warrington Town Centre'? Hardly.

And, as other posters have suggested, this is nothing new at this spot; I used to watch similar high tides doing their dastardly work at this spot forty years ago.

Quiet day at the Guardian offices (again)?

Yep, I’m sixty-two and it’s done exactly this as far back as I can remember.

And Nick I think you’ll find the direction and strength of the wind at the time played a large part.

Did Knutsford Road flood? Hmmmmm...thought not. Those new defences they are building will really help with this wont it

When can we have an update?

Have the waters returned whence they came?
Was anything valuable left behind once the mighty floodwaters in the picture had subsided? Perchance the Mary Celeste or some Spanish Dubloons?
Hopefully we can look forward to seeing some shakey phonecamera footage on youtube. Does anyone out there have such coverage?

Excellent work, Bewseylad. Come on, The Guardian, catch up! This is the kind of journalism we like.
