Moran's rallying call

SIMON Moran has appealed for fans to turn out in big numbers at Knowsley Road on Saturday and help Wolves clinch cup victory over St Helens in 'the biggest game of the season so far'.

Wolves' benefactor has set his sights on winning a trophy this year and knows that victory is the order of the day in the Challenge Cup fifth-round tie rather than another brave defeat against Saints, who are the holders and are in fine form.

And Moran hopes supporters can play a part by packing the away end for the 3pm kick-off.

He said: "Crowds have been decreasing recently in the cup but we've got superb supporters who backed us in numbers in Cardiff and in the home game against St Helens. It could be the decisive factor so I hope they can make it down there rather than watching it on television.

"It's the biggest game of the season so far, it's a huge game.

"It's a tough draw but we've got players back and the weather will hopefully help us, although Saints like to pass it around too.

"Winning is the only thing that would make it a success really, playing well and getting beat is no good in a cup game. To have 3, 4 or 5,000 there, who all know how big a deal it is, would be a real help."

Moran thinks it is important to get a win against a side like St Helens having come close in recent times and is taking a measured view of the season so far, with Wolves currently fifth in the Super League table.

He said: "Obviously we started the season well and hopefully we're back on track now after a bit of a dip and we're back near to full strength.

"It's too early to assess the season really. There have been a lot of unpredictable results.

"Saints have lost some games you wouldn't expect.

"If we'd beaten Saints recently we would have gone second, so it's all to play for.

"Our target is to win one of the two trophies or reach a final.

"But there's 12 teams and only two trophies to win.

"There's plenty of the season to go. We've had four new players and it takes time."

Moran has captured many star names in the past few years but says no new signings have yet been lined up for 2009.

"We'll have to see," he said. "We're at the top of the salary cap and we've had big investment. We'd have to move players on if we were to bring players in of a higher level."

* Cup tickets range between £17 for adults and £7 for juniors with a £1 reduction for tickets bought in advance and another £1 off for season ticket holders.

Exciting game today but yet again Saints got the better of us.

"Our target is to win one of the two trophies or reach a final.

Reading into S Morans article in the guardian I assume Cullen has got one life left before the chop, anything other than a GF appearance is failure.

I do hope that we take it to them and win this time. However, if a win is needed to appease Mr Moran then 5,000 fans is not the remedy, a new coach is!!!

You shouldn't need a subsidy to go and watch a cup game against Saints. My only gripe is the price asked to enter this cess pit of a ground without proper toilet or washing facilities.
Perhaps Simon Moran, as well as issuing a rallying cry to supporters, could try the same with the team before the game.
We surely have to beat them some time?

Unfortunately I can't make the game on Saturday however I (and the many people filling my living room come 3 o'clock) will be in fine voice, listening to the wonderful commentary from the one and only Ray French and the legend who is Jonathan Davies.
COME ON THE WIRE!! Do us proud and silence all those smug plastic scousers.
