M6 crash:Witness appeal

A TOTAL of eight people were injured in a six-vehicle crash on the M6.

The accident happened between junctions 16 and 17 at 10am today, Saturday, when a red Land Rover on the northbound carriageway lost control, crashed through the central reservation and collided with four other vehicles travelling south.

Another vehicle took evasive action and collided with the central reservation.

A 53-year-old man and 53-year-old woman were taken by air ambulance to North Staffordshire Hospital where they are being treated for serious injuries.

A 13-year-old boy, 21-year-old man and 20-year-old woman in the same car were treated for minor injuries at Leighton Hospital before being transferred to North Staffordshire Hospital.

A 61-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries at Leighton Hospital and a 60-year-old man was also taken there with serious injuries.

A 32-year-old woman was taken to Leighton Hospital with serious back injuries and has since been transferred to North Staffordshire Hospital.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, particularly anyone travelling northbound before the accident who saw the red Land Rover.

Anyone with any information should ring Cheshire Police's motorway division on 0845 458 0000.

yet another 'off road' vehicle causing carnage 'on road'.

Unbelievable comment above from Pat t? The Land Rover has been in our roads for over half a century and is used by the police and emergency services. I don't know what you are trying to imply but your misguided, heartless and frankly cruel comment is disgusting, when people have been seriously injured and currently lie in hospital. Why not go the whole hog and complain that they are also a burden to the NHS! You are sick Pat t.

The driver of the red land rover responsible for causing this incident and causing disruption to everyone else should have their licence revoked and made to have another driving test before they get it back. After which they should be prohibited driving anything larger than a Metro.

I do tend to agree with B.D.about the fact that any driver, by negligence caused a collision should be made accountable for delays to delivery times for other drivers caught up in the mayhem.
However in this case should we not wait to see what really happened,it could have been a mechanical problem with the vehicle.medical with the driver.
Would it not be a good idea when the collision has been fully investigated that the information could be made available to people with a justified interest. Just a thought.

Good point GrappenhallBoy, although I suspect the **** of all human rights do-gooders will be boiling at such a suggestion.

I don't know where you people think you get off talking like this about something you absolutely sod all about. I happen to be one of those in the red landrover, my mum is the driver who "should have her license revoked". The fact she has a broken neck means she won't be driving for a while anyways so don't worry much about that. As for being accountable for delivery times, i suggest you try to find the white van which swerved towards us, hence causing us to loose control. Id recommend that instead of mouthing off on the net about a topic you were not involved in and clearly know sod all about, you wait until you've actually learnt what happened.
