Heatley WI

Heatley WI by Zena Morgan THE May meeting is usually a serious affair where we discuss resolutions for our national executive to act upon and some members absent themselves.

They would have missed a treat at Heatley this month because the committee had planned an evening of fun for all.

After the resolution discussion about the lack of midwives in training which was passed unanimously we were presented with a lively quiz prepared by the husband of president Liz Wellbelove. The whole thing started in quite orderly fashion but soon developed into a noisy shouting match from table to table. Assistant secretary Carol Turner led her team to victory contributing most of the answers herself. We were rewarded with chocolates.

Oh, they do love their chocolates in Heatley.

Mr Wellbelove presided over an equally noisy game of bingo with more chocolates as prizes.

Two members had cause for celebration. Margaret Sharp celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary and Gladys Taylor amazed us all by admitting to being 90 years of age. Both members appear far too young for this and it only goes to prove that it isn’t only jam that the WI preserve!

We are all looking forward to the Jubilee celebration to be held in St Peter’s Hall on June 14. Garden party dress, please. Hats optional!

The evening closed with tea, coffee and cakes.
