Croft WI – April report

Croft WI – April by Pat Hewitt ELEGANT, weird, wacky and wonderful hats and outfits were on display as members of Croft WI were given the opportunity to exercise their sartorial skills when the theme for members’ nights was ‘An afternoon at the Races’. The ‘races’, which caused great hilarity and enthusiastic cheering, consisted of small wooden horses attached to long strings that had to be coiled onto winders and the jockey’ who could wind-in the fastest was the winner.

Member Christine Hill fully embraced the theme by being attired in full jockey outfit! Various prizes were awarded during the evening and the winner of the competition was Barbara Taylor, whose hat incorporated a singing bird! Second prize went to Diane Simms and third to Anne Tansey.

The millinery skills of Janet Hughes were also on display and proved of great interest.

An enthusiastic vote of thanks was given to the committee who had organised the evening and prepared the food by president Doreen Clare.

Sixty-two members and a visitor attended the meeting.
