MP Since - 2010 Majority - 92 Born - 1959.
Education - Nottingham University.
Previous Occupation - Senior Regional Organiser, Transport and Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA). Community and Youth Work Manager, Wigan Council.
Personal Overview - Experienced local government and union officer who has lived in her new constituency for over 25 years. She was selected following a Labour Party commitment to choose a woman as a replacement for the outgoing Ruth Kelly who decided to stand down from Parliament in 2010. A controversial figure Kelly bequeathed a marginal seat to Hilling and she did well in turn to fend off by one of the smallest margins the Conservative challenge. Bolton remains a mixed area politically and the Conservatives' Tom Sackville was the MP for the area during the Thatcher/Major years. Hilling has strong local credentials and will need to develop them further if she is to ensure her ongoing Commons tenure.
Political History - Former Vice-Chairman, Bolton West Constituency Labour Party. Member for Bolton West (2010-). Member of the Transport Select Committee (2010-12). Member of the Standards & Privileges Select Committee (2011-12).
Characteristics - Originally raised in Leighton Buzzard.
