WARRINGTON HF Rambling Club led by Peter Hough took a walk in the forest last Sunday, September 6, Clocaenog Forest, to be precise, in North Wales.
The 18 walkers set off from Clawdd-Newydd and completed 10 miles and around 1200' of climbing.
The forest covers 70 square miles and is home to the rare black grouse, Przewalski horses, and is one of the last refuges for the red squirrel in Wales.
We climbed to the Pincyn Llys Monument erected by Lord Bogot in 1830, and got spectacular views of the Clwydian Hills and the Berwyns.
The walk was quite an adventure, with the late summer growth giving some of the forest paths a jungle-like appearance.
Afterwards we gathered in the Glan Llyn for refreshments, a community-owned pub in Clawdd-Newydd, before the journey home.
