SEVENTEEN members set off by train from Warrington to Bamford in the Peak District, taking advantage of the GMPT Wayfarer tickets.

Alighting from the train at Bamford it was a steady climb to the top of Win Hill.

The sunny weather meant we had 360 degree views from the top of Win Hill, taking in Lose Hill, Mam Tor and Kinder to name but a few of the hills.

After lunch a gentle descent led us down to Hope Cross, just beyond which the party split.

The easier walk continued down the Edale Valley via Jaggers Clough to Edale where we had a welcome drink in the Rambler Inn and caught an earlier train back.

We had covered about nine miles and 1300ft of ascent.

On the harder walk the members climbed to the South East corner of the Kinder Scout plateau near Crookstone Knoll.

The extra effort was rewarded with superb views in reprise to Win Hill, to the Lose Hill to Mam Tor ‘Great Ridge’ across the Edale valley and of the southern side of the Kinder plateau.

The amazingly shaped weather-worn gritstone boulders provided the rugged foreground to the softer scenery in the valley far below.

Hartshorn and Grindslow Knoll were the final tops before a long stony descent gave way to grassy meadows and the last stretch through Edale village.

The Rambler Inn provided the liquid refreshment to ease some tired feet after 12 miles and 2500 ft of ascent.
