The eyes have it!

THE super power of achieving a credible west of Ireland accent is one that appears to be sadly lacking among Peter Petrelli's new mates in the second series of Heroes (BBC2, Thursday).

The younger Flying Petrelli brother found himself in a container on the dockside in Cork at the start of the new series, and his ears are currently being assaulted by a group of Irish gangsters with extremely dodgy accents.

Meanwhile brother Nathan has grown a truly horrific beard and lost the respect of his evil mother Angela, who is now being pursued by the mystery killer of Hiro's father.

Former cheerleader Claire provided last Thursday's 'look away now' moment, when she decided to cut off her little toe to see if it would grow back again. Don't try this at home, children!

Now I like my heroes to have traditional super powers - flying, mind-reading, superhuman strength, that kind of thing. The list doesn't include having a tar-like substance seeping from the eyes, a condition that apparently kills the person you are looking at. This is the curse of new 'hero' Maya, who is currently fleeing her home in South America with twin brother Alejandro to find a cure for her affliction.

Meanwhile, back in 17th century Japan, Hiro is trying to force the legendary Takezo Kenzei to be the hero he should be, instead of a drunken English coward.

This series will not take off properly, of course, until we see the return of super baddie Sylar, who doesn't need black stuff running from his eyes to be truly scary!
