Can't Knock The Hustle

SO that's it then. There is no need to carry on watching Dancing on Ice (ITV1, Sunday), now that Todd 'Mr Entertainment' Carty has gone.

Who wants to see Ray 'Mr Smug' Quinn zooming around the rink, and then beating himself up because he is a 'perfectionist'?

Much better viewing is the current series of Hustle (BBC1, Thursday), which delivers a consistently high quality of storyline, script and direction.

Last Thursday's episode had a bit of everything - a corrupt politician, a community centre under threat and a spat between Mickey Stone and new boy Sean Kennedy, who thought the team leader was getting too close to his sister Emma.

In true form, the team managed to sort out the politician and save the centre, delaying demolition of the building at a critical time with the use of the old endangered toad trick.

Talking of toads, Tony of the bulging eyes in Corrie is in meltdown, after confessing his role in the murder of Liam to his wife Carla - a move totally out of character bearing in mind the fact that he almost killed Jed Stone to keep the matter secret just a few weeks ago.

But then soap scriptwriters are not averse to introducing drastic character changes, as seen in the metamorphosis of Billy Mitchell from child beating bully to wimpy victim in EastEnders, for example.

I know it's not real life, but is it too much to ask for consistency?
