It’s a more common complaint from fans that musicians cut their sets short (or, in the case of Nicki Minaj at Wireless, only manage a guest appearance on one track), but Damon Albarn had to be forcibly removed from the stage during a mammoth five-hour performance.
The Blur frontman was performing under a different banner as part of his Africa Express project at Roskilde Festival in Denmark at the weekend when five hours in, and showing no signs of packing up any time soon, security staff were called in to carry him off stage.
It was 4am by the time organisers finally decided enough was enough, with Damon’s set including covers of hits from The Clash and one of his other bands, Gorillaz.
He was joined during the appearance by Blur bandmate Graham Coxon, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, Laura Mvula, Jeff Wootton, Songhoy Blues and Seye Adelekan.
The crowd took the abrupt end to his performance in good humour, singing The Clash’s Should I Stay Or Should I Go as he was asked to leave.
Damon initially refused to go, but after trying to reason with him a burly security guard wrapped the singer’s coat around his shoulders, picked him up, and took him away from the crowd.
