Adele’s record label boss has said he is “pleased” with progress on her new album – but said it will take as long as necessary to get it right.

The singer has achieved colossal success around the world for her first two releases 19 and 21 which have sold in the region of seven million copies between them in the UK alone.

There had been hopes that the star – who had a son Angelo two years ago – would release a follow-up this year but the recording process appears to be ongoing and a release date is still to be announced.

XL Records boss Richard Russell – in an interview with the new edition of Q magazine – said of the new album: “It takes the length of time that it takes to do and for it to be right.

“I’m really pleased with how it’s going. She’s always had a very high standard for what she does. She had that from day one, which is why the records have been so good.”

Russell was awarded the outstanding contribution to music prize at the Q Awards last month for the success of his firm which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Signings have included The White Stripes, Prodigy, Dizzee Rascal and this year’s Mercury Prize nominees Jungle.
