Amy Winehouse's mother has revealed that the last time she saw her daughter, the Back To Black singer was so drunk she had to be carried down the stairs of her own home.

Janis Winehouse described the scene in her book about her daughter, who was found dead at her north London home on July 23, 2011 after a very public struggle with addiction.

She said she visited her there the day before she died and found "broken bottles of white wine" lying around the house in Camden.

Writing in Loving Amy, she said her daughter's bodyguard, Andrew Morris, let her in before going upstairs to fetch her.

She said: " As Andrew turned the corner, I saw Amy was slung over his shoulder in a fireman's lift. It was obvious he'd washed her and dressed her and tried to put her beehive on to make her look respectable."

Mrs Winehouse said the 27-year-old "reeked of alcohol" which was " coming out of every pore" as she slurred her words and dropped a collection of family photographs she had been looking though.

Mrs Winehouse, who now devotes her time to fundraising for the foundation set up in her daughter's name, said it was so distressing she had to leave.

She said : "I just couldn't sit there and watch her like that."

All of her proceeds from t he book, to be published on September 11 by Bantam Press, are going to the foundation.

An inquest found the singer died from alcohol poisoning after a drinking binge and heard evidence that she was more than five times the legal drink-drive limit when she died.
