MORRISSEY has announced a UK tour – but there is no Manchester date.

The closest gig for north west fans is at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on February 24. Manchester icon Morrissey will be on the road to promote his first album since 2014, Low in High School, which comes out on November 17.

The record is produced by Joe Chiccarelli, who has worked with Frank Zappa, The Strokes, Beck and The White Stripes. Low in High School, recorded in France and Italy, will also be the first release on Morrissey’s new label, Etienne Records as part of a partnership with BMG.

Morrisey rose to prominence alongside Johnny Marr as frontman of one of Manchester’s best loved bands, The Smiths.

Between 1984 and 1987 they had a number one record with Meat Is Murder and three albums that reached number two in the charts.

Morrissey went on to forge a successful solo career, with all 10 of his solo efforts landing in the top 10 of the UK album charts, including three entries at number one.

Releasing his debut solo album Viva Hate in 1988, he has since released a number of acclaimed follow-ups including Kill Uncle and Your Arsenal, and the comeback album You Are the Quarry after a five year hiatus in 2004.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, November 3, at 10am.Visit gigst.rs/morrissey.
