FOO Fighters will be playing in front of around 60,000 revellers when they return to Manchester on June 19.

Dave Grohl and his band have announced a show at Etihad Stadium as part of a short tour of the UK.

It follows the release of their acclaimed number one album, Concrete and Gold, which came out in September.

Glastonbury headliners Foo Fighters, behind the hits Monkey Wrench, All My Life and The Pretender, have also just returned from Cal Jam, a festival in San Bernardino which they curated and headlined themselves.

The bill featured Queens of the Stone Age, Liam Gallagher, Royal Blood, Wolf Alice and The Kills.

Former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl formed Foo Fighters, initially as a one-man project, in the wake of Kurt Cobain’s death.

After almost accepting a position as drummer in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Grohl instead entered Robert Lang Studios in Washington and recorded 15 songs.

With the exception of one track, X-Static, he played every instrument and sang every vocal himself.

After the demo tape caused a buzz in the music industry, Foo Fighters’ debut album was eventually released by Capitol Records under Grohl’s own label, Roswell Records, in 1995.

Now a six-piece, with Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear among the line-up, Foo Fighters have gone on to win multiple Brit and Grammy awards.

They have had eight top five albums in the UK, including four number ones.

Foo Fighters will perform at Etihad Stadium on Monday, June 19.
