A NEW music night in Warrington is giving vinyl enthusiasts the chance to share the decks with the DJ.

Take Five at The Quarter in Springfield Street will give people the chance to help shape their own unique night out by bringing along their five favourite records to play.

No mixing skills required and any pop, indie, dance or disco song from any era is welcome.

Organiser Sammy Dean, from Grappenhall Heys, said: "I love vinyl for many reasons. The sound, even the crackle, there is just something about it.

"But mainly it was the pleasure of buying the latest singles. The limited edition coloured vinyl or poster prints.

"I used to spend all my wages in Hott Waxx records in Warrington or Eastern Bloc in Manchester.

"Digital music might have an amazing sound quality and be easy to store but it’s not quite the same as having something tangible."

Florist Sammy got the idea after playing at a couple of similar events in London in the late 90s called Stick It On.

The former Birchwood High School pupil added: "It’s good because its’s eclectic and anyone can be the DJ there are no skills required.

"I've also noticed there’s been resurgence in vinyl lately. In some places in the north west record shops are even reopening, and it turns out there are more private vinyl collectors around than you might think.

"It’s a perfect opportunity for collectors to show the jewels in their crowns or for enthusiasts just play their favourite songs."

Sammy, who grew up in Locking Stumps, started organising club nights last year as a way to reunite people who put away their dancing shoes to concentrate on their families and careers.

She said: "My nights have taken off and we have a real mixtures of ages from 20 and 50 and that’s how house music should be, bringing people of all ages and walks of life together."

- Take Five is at The Quarter on Friday, August 28. If you have no vinyl you can pay £5 to pick records from Sammy's collection.
