AFTER his 2013 headline set at Warrington Music Festival with the Happy Mondays, Shaun Ryder is returning to the town.

After two decades, the Madchester icon and Kermit are teaming up again for a Black Grape comeback tour.

The duo will be at Parr Hall on Sunday, July 12, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of platinum album, It's Great When You're Straight...Yeah.

Black Grape was an unexpected music project that came about when the Happy Mondays fell apart in 1992.

Most fans thought Shaun would disappear from the music scene as he was facing a battle with drug addiction.

No one could have ever predicted that three years later, the 52-year-old would return to the top of the charts with a new band.

Black Grape’s debut album combined Happy Mondays influences with deep grooves, catchy pop hooks and bizarre rhymes

Teaming up with former Ruthless Rap Assassins man Kermit, Shaun had a rapper on board with equal skills to bounce off and the pair managed to combine rap, house, rock, soul, and pop.

Shaun and Kermit recorded two albums together over five years but split in 1998.

Black Grape reformed briefly for a one-off gig in London in 2010 and then signed to Creation Management this year.

They are working with Alan McGee who has managed the likes of Oasis and Primal Scream.

Shaun and Kermit, who are back in the rehearsal studios, said: "Black Grape has always been the simmering stalking horse, waiting in the wings, for a time to come back to life and remind people of the huge commercial and musical celebration that it was.

"It’s time for the party to start again."
