Concert set to raise funds for WDP

CHINA White are headlining a charity concert at the Parr Hall on Friday night to raise funds for the Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP).

The group, known for their brooding beats and unique take on trip–hop, have worked with the likes of Scorpio, from the groundbreaking group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, and Rowetta, formerly of the Happy Mondays.

The Big I Am event has been organised by students from Warrington Collegiate, alongside the Warrington Music Collective and Radio Warrington.

Dave Thompson, WDP chairman, said: “It should be a very, very good night."

Tom Haughton, the son of Jayne Haughton, the WDP's chief officer, who was handed the Mayor’s Young Citizen of the Month Award for his work with the charity last year, was approached by friends from the music course at Warrington Collegiate who suggested holding the event to support its cause.

Dan Monroe, Ben Gaunt and Luke Rowe have organised the concert based on an idea by Rhys Wain and Ross Aspden.

Daniel Monroe said: “We heard of the good work carried out by Warrington Disability Partnership and decided that we would like to do something to support them.

“We have some good bands planned for this event, with a range of music styles, which should make the event a huge success.”

Also on the bill will be pop–punk four–piece Guilty Warfare, Scum on the Run, rock ‘n’ rollers Afterburn and Hollie.

Tickets priced £4 and £3.50 concessions can be bought on the door or in advance from the Pyramid box office on 442345.
