QUEEN’S Gardens will be transformed into a bustling artisan market as the team behind pop-up events in the likes of Manchester’s Northern Quarter and West Didsbury come to town.

Weekend met up with Victoria Jackson and Lisa Baldwin, from the Makers’ Market, to get an idea of what is in store for Palmyra Square on Sunday, March 11.

The first of what will be a monthly event will see around 70 food, drink, art and craft producers in the area.

There will also be a number of Warrington traders including 3 Pugs Gins and the Vintage Tea Shop.

Victoria said: “From the first event you can tell what the town is so it’ll evolve and it’ll become a reflection of what is needed locally.”

The 38-year-old has been running markets since 2011 and there are now 14 monthly events under the Makers’ Market brand.

Each one is slightly different so for example the Knutsford market is more food focused and the West Didsbury and Northern Quarter events have a big push on supporting artists.

Victoria added: “From what we understand about Warrington I think it’s going to be quite a foodie market and we’ve got them award winners.

“Our aim is for it to totally reflect Warrington so we want to get as many artisans from the town involved as possible.

“So each event feels different and we can’t wait to create this one in Warrington. The feedback we’re getting on social media is that it’s really wanted and they’re surprised it’s not happened already.

“The Cultural Quarter has been of interest to us for quite a while and we have a lot visitors from Warrington to our other markets and they are so enthusiastic.”

The market is free to attend and there will be things to keep the kids entertained including a sand art workshop and face painting.

The Loose Change Buskers, who recently won a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and have raised a staggering £400,000 for Cancer Research, will also be performing.

Victoria said: “The great thing about these markets is in most instances you’re speaking to the maker or artist themselves.

“We’re moving towards internet shopping and when we one day tell our grandkids we used to get into a car and drive to a town centre to go shopping they’ll think we were mad but there’s nothing like it.

“What also makes our events special is the community gets involved.”

Lisa, 38, added: “It revives the days when the high street was king when you did go and speak to your baker or pie maker.

“Even with things like Warrington’s 3 Pugs Gin people might know Christine and go and chat to her. It brings back that interaction.”

The Makers’ Market comes to Queen’s Gardens for the first time on Sunday from 11am to 4pm
