"ANY kids out there - join a band. This is how good it could be."

Ah Serge. If only you had passed on this advice a couple of decades ago maybe I might have tried harder in my music lessons at school.

Those final words from the Kasabian guitarist before they swaggered off stage after a storming two-hour set at Manchester Arena perfectly summed up how the majority of that 21,000-strong crowd were feeling.

We all wanted to be part of a band. But not just any band. We all wanted to be on stage with Kasabian smashing our way through 13 years of hits.

(Even if we were just part of the brass section for a couple of tracks or the big finale with the gospel choir.)

The four-piece took to the stage dressed in an all white Spice Boys-esque look which could have looked a bit 'East 17 - Stay Another Day'.

But at the moment this is a band that can do no wrong and the Leicester favourites somehow made it look cool.

Deciding against the flashy stage effects and confetti usually expected at this level, the five-piece instead let their music do the talking.

Their track list swerved between their early 'lad-rock' terrace chants synonymous with Sky Sports football coverage to their more recent clubby beats and slightly softer 'You're in Love With a Psycho'.

Lead singer Tom Meighan and guitarist Sergio Pizzorno shared the role of the front man taking it in turns to whip the crowd into a bouncing, pint-flinging, grab-the-person-nearest-to-you-and-jump-on-their-shoulders frenzy.

Bringing the show to a close with a suitably explosive version of Fire, the crowd headed for the exit still belting out the guitar riffs to Empire.

And perhaps also thinking, 'I wish I could pull off white denim like that'.
