EVER been to a gig where you feel like you know the lead singer's life story by the end of it?

Or perhaps repeatedly being asked if you are in fact having a good time between songs got rather tiresome fast.

On Saturday night at the Echo Arena, Kings of Leon provided a masterclass in how to cram in seven much-loved albums into a two-hour set: Cut out the chit chat and plough through one guitar-shredding track after another.

Lead singer Caleb Followill, who must have one of the most distinctive voices in modern rock, barely paused for breath between songs, never mind swapping pleasantries with the crowd.

The sweat poured from his brow during a high energy set which saw everyone's favourite nepotistic rockers bounce back and forth between their hit albums from the past decade as well as showcasing a number of new songs from latest offering Walls.

While there's nothing you can really class as a banger on their new album, the catchy riffs and choruses in their new material was enough to keep the crowd swaying.

And their slow-building title track finished an acoustic set in the middle of the gig with a mighty crescendo to get the crowd back on their feet.

This wasn't just a night of celebrating the new however and fans' thirst for old favourites was most definitely satisfied during tracks like Milk, Four Kicks, On Call and Molly's Chambers.

During a tour which sees the three brothers and cousin from Tennessee hop from England to America to Europe and then back again to England in the space of five months, there can't be many crowds that will match Liverpool on a Saturday night.

Every word was belted back at the band with an 11-000 strong singalong to Use Somebody before they winded things up with final track Waste A Moment.

Blue and pink confetti showered fans as the band waved a quick goodbye and exited the stage without an encore.

But I guess that should hardly have been a surprise.

Why waste your time with unnecessary long goodbyes when you've just let your music do the talking for you.
