KINGS of Leon will be playing in Manchester on June 9 as part of their world tour.

The band from Nashville, Tennessee, released their seventh album, Walls, last year.

It went straight to number one in the UK chart.

The rock band has also recently been nominated for Best International Group at the Brit Awards and Best International Band at the NME Awards.

Kings of Leon will play at Manchester Arena as one of two newly announced shows which will follow the string of five arena dates the band are playing in February across the UK.

They are also headlining British Summer Time at Hyde Park on July 6 with support from Pixies and Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats.

Originally inspired by southern rock and blues, Kings of Leon formed in 1999.

The four-piece is made up of brothers Caleb, Jared and Nathan Followill and their cousin Matthew Followill.

They named the band after their grandfather Leon, who died in January 2014.

Caleb, Jared and Nathan grew up in Oklahoma and Tennessee with their preacher father, Ivan Leon Followill and their mother Betty-Ann, who home-schooled them.

They often played music at their father’s services before being influenced by bands like Pixies and The Velvet Underground.

Their first album, Youth and Young Manhood, was released in 2003.

And they were successful in the UK right from the outset with their first three records peaking in the top five of the albums chart.

The band then broke America with their fourth album, Only by the Night, in September 2008 which reached number four in the US charts.

The record was their first platinum-selling album in the United States.

The singles Sex on Fire, Use Somebody and Notion all peaked at number one on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Only by The Night was also the best-selling album of 2008 in Australia.
