SING Hallelujah as Sister Act is coming to Manchester.

The new production of the Broadway and West End musical comedy, based on the hit Whoopi Goldberg film, will be at Palace Theatre from August 29 to September 3.

Starring X Factor winner Alexandra Burke and directed by Craig Revel Horwood, the show tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder.

Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she will not be found – a convent.

Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior (Karen Mann), Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

Alexandra recently starred as Rachel Marron in the national tour of The Bodyguard, a part she also played in the West End.

After winning the fifth series of The X Factor, her debut number one single Hallelujah sold more than one million copies in the UK, a first for a British female soloist.

Craig Revel Horwood is best known as a judge on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing.

But as a director and choreographer his credits include the recent concert of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies at the Royal Albert Hall, Sunset Boulevard in the West End and the national tours of Fiddler on the Roof.
