A SILENT theatre production is coming to Warrington on Monday.

The Dukes Deaf Drama Group will be bringing their sign language performance, Imagine, to the Pyramid about two brothers separated by war, duty and fate.

The free show is primarily aimed at the deaf community but it is open to everyone.

Set during the First World War, Imagine tells the story of two brothers – one hearing and one deaf.

Both want to fight for their country but only one of them can and the story explores how they attempt to stay in touch when one goes off to the frontline and the other is forced to stay at home

It was first performed last year during the centenary year of the outbreak of the war when more than 700 people watched it at the Sign Circle, a festival for the signing community in Preston.

Jack Heaton, aged 22, from The Dukes Deaf Drama Group, said: "The most important thing about the play for me is that it is made by members of the deaf community for members of the deaf community.

"The whole show will be in British Sign Language and that’s an interesting art form in itself.

"I’d really like people to go away thinking about how we communicate. It’s very difficult for the two brothers to communicate in the context of war but they still manage it.

"Two ordinary people are thrown into extraordinary circumstances and through this we learn a lot about them but also about human nature.

"The show was conceived in the centenary year so feelings about the First World War were at a high but we wanted to tell a story that people might never have heard before."
