A LATCHFORD playwright is holding auditions for her production in November – and says she wants it to be a testing ground for more performances in Warrington.

Emily Chriscoli, of St Mary's Street, is looking for five actors to perform A Walk In The Park, a play that began life as her dissertation at Edge Hill University and has since been toured all around the north west.

The controversial play is about a young couple who meet by chance and whose relationship is tested by a revelation.

Originally, the play was submitted in the Three Minute Theatre's play showcase in 2012 and won third place out of 15 plays. It was then snapped up by New Live Theatre Company for a regional tour.

"Ever since that point, I've wanted to put the performance on again but instead of handing it over to a theatre company, I wanted to have more of an input," added Emily, who is working with producer Jessica Hartless and director Alys Biggs on the production.

"About three months ago, I decided to produce the play myself.

"The purpose of the performance is really just to test the waters – will it be worth it financially? Will people enjoy the writing and the acting? Could I do it again? Should I start my own theatre company?"

Emily is also supporting the Warrington and District Arts Council campaign to bring a theatre to the town centre as part of the £107 million Bridge Street development.

The 25-year-old who attended Cardinal Newman RC High School and Priestley College student, said: "It makes me feel a little sad that Warrington is such a great place in terms of culture, but the opportunities for creative people are so thin on the ground.

"I spent my childhood going to Stage Struck at the Pyramid and StageCoach at the Parr Hall, plus Westy drama club and dance lessons at the Pyramid twice a week.

"What we could do with is a small theatre which is available to hire for small up-and-coming theatre companies."

- A Walk In The Park will be presented with a new cast on November 13 and 14 with auditions being held at the The Kings Club in St Mary's Street on August 29 between 10am and 4pm.

Those interested should email awitpwarrington@hotmail.com stating which character they want to audition for.

No professional acting experience is necessary but those applying require a qualification in drama and a passion for theatre.

CASTING:

Jack - mid 20s

A struggling actor who wants nothing more than to get a starring role in a great production, but unfortunately, he spends most of his time working behind the bar in his local. He is lovable, funny and loyal.

Jack is the main character, has some huge chunks of speech and is in almost every scene.

Kate - early to mid 20s

Kate meets Jack on a night out and the play follows their relationship. She is sweet, innocent, beautiful and loving.

She has some huge chunks of speech, particularly towards the end of the play.

Hanson - mid 20s

George 'Hanson' Carmichael is the comic relief of the play. He is hilarious, witty and suffers from 'foot in mouth' syndrome, often speaking without thinking.

He has been Jack's best mate since school. The actor playing Hanson needs to quick witted and open to crude jokes.

Wendy - 40s/50s

Wendy is Jack's interfering mother. She wants nothing more than for her son to settle down, get married and start a family.

She's another comedy role with people laughing at her, rather than with her. She is outspoken and politically incorrect. She has a lot of speech, so the actress playing Wendy will need to be prepared to learn a lot of lines.

Dave - 40s/50s

Dave is Wendy's second husband. He is laid back, happy-go-lucky and often sits on the fence. He is the person to keep Wendy's feet on the ground.

The character of Dave is a small yet crucial role and the actor will need to be happy to multi-role with the part of the doctor. The doctor is a small but pivotal role in the play.
