DAVID Walliams' weary wanderer Mr Stink will be making Warrington his home on Tuesday.

Heartbreak Productions is hoping for the sweet smell of success when it presents the first open air stage version of the celebrated children's novel at Walton Hall and Gardens.

The new adaptation for all the family also involves the audience so expect stink bombs, egg and spoon races and children joining in as ninja turtles.

Meanwhile, the big kids in the crowd can enjoy the laugh out loud humour and witty jabs at the establishment.

Little Britain star and Britain's Got Talent judge David Walliams' Mr Stink is about a 12-year-old girl called Chloe who befriends a homeless man when she invites him to live in her garden shed.

The team at Heartbreak Productions, who presented Jane Austen's Emma at Walton Hall in May, have adapted the novel to fit a summer setting.

It starts at a birthday party for Annabelle, the spoilt younger sister of the book's heroine, Chloe.

Feeling alienated at home and at school, Chloe finds support from an unlikely source and her new friendship transforms the lives of all those around her.

Director Peter Mimmack said: "Mr Stink is really looking forward to coming to Walton Hall and Gardens.

"He has been wandering around the country enjoying a lovely British summer and looking for a place to rest his weary head to see the stars and snack on a few sausages with his dog, Duchess.

"If you see him, please be aware that he can smell a little but if you can hold your nose for a minute and offer him a sausage he will be eternally grateful."

Mr Stink was published in 2009 and BBC One's TV adaptation, starring Hugh Bonneville, was aired over the Christmas period in 2012.

Bronwyn Ainsworth, from Heartbreak Productions, added: "It is very much along the lines of Roald Dahl with larger-than-life characters, humorous story telling and a child being the hero of the piece."

Theatre-goers are encouraged to bring a picnic and you may even find a member of the cast joining you before the performance begins for traditional party games.

Leamington Spa's Heartbreak Productions is now in its 24th year of touring the UK.

There are five cast members in the show and their hectic schedule will see them arrive at Walton Hall, build the set, act the play, take the set down and drive on all within a day.

- Mr Stink will be performed at Walton Hall and Gardens on Tuesday at 7pm.

Tickets can be bought from the coffee shop on site or by calling 262908. Tickets are £12 for adults, £8 for concessions or £36 for a family of four.
