JOHN McCullagh may only be 17 but he is not to be underestimated.

The songwriter signed to Alan McGee's 359 Records when he was just 14 and, together with his new backing band The Escorts, recorded his debut album, Newborn Cry, earlier this year with John Power from Cast.

McGee famously managed huge bands like Oasis, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine and The Libertines.

And he instantly saw the potential in McCullagh who has been writing songs and playing guitar since he was 12. The musician, inspired by Donovan, Marc Bolan, Paul Weller and Johnny Cash, is also a dab hand at the harmonica.
