Chateau Argadens 2014, £8.95, The Wine Society

It might sound daft but there’s a distinct hint of lemon sherbet which takes me right back to my schooldays with this white Bordeaux blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes.

There are also flavours of white peaches and grapefruit in a summery wine that is good value from an organisation of which you can become a life member for just £40.

Truly Irresistible Chinon 2013, £9.99, Co-op

Chinon is a red produced in the Touraine district of the Loire region of northern central France and not the country’s best known wine export.

That’s partly because it’s a light to medium bodied drink that’s so popular with Frenchmen that they don’t bother sending much abroad.

Cabernet Franc is the grape and this Co-op own label one goes with almost anything.
