IT is full steam ahead for Lymm Historic Transport Day after organisers teamed up with Lancashire Traction Engine Club.

Around 13 traction engines and steam rollers will trundling into the village for the festivities on June 28.

This year marks the club’s golden jubilee year but members had no official way to celebrate until now.

In the past, Lancashire Traction Engine Club organised the May Day Steam Rally in Flixton which ran for 29 years but this came to an end in 2010.

But the club's partnership with Lymm Historic Transport Day will see a wide variety of full size steam engines displayed.

This includes the showman’s engine ‘Supremacy’, a Sentinel steam waggon and even a steam milk float

Steam Rollers including ‘Betsy’ once owned by the late Fred Dibnah will be among them too.

It will also be a celebration of Lymm's canal heritage as coal will be delivered by the historic working boat Ariel via the Bridgewater Canal on the site of the old coal wharf.

Lymm resident Chris Adamson, who owns the 1893 Aveling & Porter steam engine, Vanguard, said: "The public will have the chance to chat to engine owners and be shown the ins and outs of how it all works.

"The club itself will be looking to spark people’s interest and get them involved in the fascinating world of steam. If you fancy getting your hands dirty the club is offering plenty of opportunities for the budding engineer.

"The steam show will be just one part of this fast-growing event that will also feature historic working boats, classic and vintage cars, motorbikes and bicycles as well as three halls of model railways."

Lymm Historic Transport Day gets off to a roaring start on Sunday, June 28, at 10.30am with a parade of historic vehicles through the village centre.

The traction engines will be on display around the village centre as well as next to the canal. The day will be rounded off with a sail past of historic boats at 4.30pm.

Chris, of Mill Lane, added: "Come along and enjoy the atmosphere, experience the sights, smells and sounds of industrial Victorian England."
