YOUNGSTERS can see a power station in action as part of the Amazed by Science festival.

Families can visit the control room at Fiddler’s Ferry on Tuesday to find out how it produces and distributes electricity.

Meanwhile, children can don lab coats and goggles to make scientific discoveries at three events at Golden Square all day on Wednesday.

The Flashbang Science workshop focuses on a mix of chemistry and physics for primary school age youngsters.

A team from Sellafield in Birchwood will be inviting families to think about the science of what goes on at a nuclear site.

You can try your hand at the glovebox challenge, pond crane activity and remote handler activity which are suitable for those aged six and above.

Could you be the Tony Hawk of the toy world? Because there will also be a HexBugs skatepark at Golden Square on the day.

Free Amazed by Science events are held all over Cheshire between Saturday and Sunday, May 31.

The aim is to inspire the next generation of scientists by helping children to understand the wide range of careers available in science and technology in the area.

Ian Cox, director of Golden Square, said: "Warrington’s success today is built on the scientific discoveries that made the town an industrial and manufacturing power house in past centuries.

"Warrington continues to lead the way with technological breakthroughs, and so it’s fitting that we should celebrate this with the Amazed by Science roadshow at Golden Square.

"I’m looking forward to seeing the nuclear industry interactive experience display from the Sellafield team, watching youngsters with the HexBugs controllable skateboards, and seeing people scientific experiments with Flashbang Science's hands-on science in Old Market Square."

The annual Amazed by Science festival is being led by Marketing Cheshire and Jodrell Bank.

The launch comes just weeks after Jodrell Bank was chosen to host the permanent headquarters for the world’s largest radio telescope, an observatory that aims to investigate the early history of the universe.
