A ONE-MAN band from Orford who has vowed to write and record a song every day for a year is half way through his challenge.

David Carey, who records music under the name DC Electric Band, is aiming to raise £10,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

The former Woolston CE Primary School teacher, who used to play keyboard with soul singers on the north west pub and club circuit, said: "I’m really enjoying the 365-day, songwriting challenge even though I’ve not had a ‘day off’ for six months!

"I’m never stuck for something to write about but some days are easier than others.

"I like those days where the idea comes to mind and, 10 minutes later, a song is ready to record!

"The hardest part of the challenge came during the Christmas and New Year holidays, knowing that everyone else was enjoying being out and about.

"Also the dark months of January and February were pretty tough."

The process involves David getting up at 6.30am each morning to switch on the TV or surf the internet until he finds a theme, usually relating to news, sports or popular culture.

Then each one-minute song is unleashed on the public online.

David added: "A really positive thing is simply getting feedback on Facebook and SoundCloud. That gives me all the encouragement I need to get on with the daily job.

"The greatest thing is knowing that I’m raising money for a really worthwhile cause - helping to find a cure for blood cancers and giving people affected by the disease the greatest chance of getting better and living a normal life. I couldn’t do this without the support of my wife, Sharron, who is probably looking forward to the end more than me!"
