A RENOWNED DJ from Chicago is jetting over to Warrington to play 'A Very Important House Party'.

Marshall Jefferson, considered to be one of pioneers of house music, will be performing a set at The Apartment in Bold Street on June 13.

Freelance florist Sammy Dean, from Grappenhall Heys, launched A Very Important House Party in September last year to celebrate her 40th birthday and relive her clubbing days.

The popular event has now been running for more than six months and the last one in March was a sell-out.

Sammy, a former Birchwood High School student, said: "The next event will feature Marshall Jefferson, a man many call the godfather of Chicago house music.

"His iconic productions changed the face of dance music forever in the late 80s and his influence still prevails.

"Who better to play classic house music than the man who invented it? Marshall was and still is a pioneer of the genre, and a giant in house music.

"We are honoured to have him DJ for us at A Very Important House Party and I can’t wait to see what he plays. We know our audience will love it."

Sammy was inspired to get Marshall on the bill after seeing the Hacienda gig he played on New Year's Eve at The Albert Hall in Manchester.

"To hear Marshall in such an amazing venue was electric," she said.

"The man is one of the true pioneers of house music.

"I’m really excited about having him play in The Apartment, because whilst the atmosphere of playing in an immense venue like the Albert Hall is clearly something else, to have in play in a 250-capacity venue is really something very special.

"He's going to blow the roof off!"

Joining Marshall for a second appearance at A Very Important House Party will be keyboardist Davos.

And rumour has it that he will be jamming live with Marshall as he plays his set.

Resident DJ Adam Wilson will be providing the welcome, and the night will round up with newcomer Phil Hickson playing for a second time.

- Marshall Jefferson will perform at The Apartment on June 13 from 9pm to 3am.

Tickets are £10. They are available from Lizard Inc Records in Legh Street, Mojos Bar and Tapas in Cairo Street and skiddle.com
