SCORES of music fans are expected to come spinning into an independent store to help turn up the volume for Record Store Day.

Those who go along to Head in Golden Square on Saturday, April 18, will be able to enjoy live music and get their hands on limited edition vinyl during the special one-day celebration.

More than 500 records have been specially produced for the event, from music giants such as Foo Fighters, David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen to more current bands such as 1975, Peace and Biffy Clyro.

Store manager David Rafter said: "We are going to have some very collectable records on offer including a re-mastered version of Bruce Springsteen’s album Born In the USA and a picture disc of A-Ha’s iconic song Take On Me which features a still from the pop video made at the time.

"There will be records on offer which have never been available before and we are already getting calls about records from artists like Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie because for collectors, it is a real chance to get your hands on something special.

"We’ve also been getting lots of enquiries about a 12-inch clear vinyl album from The 1975. They’re a young, indie rock band from Manchester which has developed a large following."

When Head took part in Record Store Day for the first time last year it had more than 100 people queueing up outside from early morning to sample what was on offer.

David, who has been manager of the store since it opened in the former HMV unit in 2013, said he is hoping to double the number of music fans this year.

He added: "Just like last year, we’ll be having three or four Warrington bands performing live music for our customers.

"We’re currently finalising details of our line-up of guest acts and will share this closer to the event.

"The day is all about offering our customers a unique experience and championing the cause in independent record shops, which obviously have a special place in the hearts of so many music lovers.

"Here at Head, we have a passion for music, having eclectic tastes that span every genre. We enjoy sharing our knowledge with fellow music fans and discovering up and coming artists we think our customers will appreciate."

Record Store Day was launched in the USA in 2007 when 700 independent stores came together to celebrate their unique culture. The UK followed suit the following year.

Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters’ front man and this year’s ambassador for Record Store Day, said: "It is important for kids and adults to celebrate the discovery of a little record store and discover things you never thought existed that could potentially change your life.

"Record stores remain active and alive to inspire the next generation to go out and produce music to keep records on store shelves."

Ian Cox, Golden Square director, said: "Our record store Head brings a really unique offering to Golden Square and their plans for Record Store Day is attracting some attention.

"I know Dave and his team are all champions of the local and wider music scene and enjoy sharing their passion for records with their customers so it seems fitting that there is a day specially designed to champion their cause.

"I feel sure there will be a great turn out on April 18."
