A FORMER winner of the Warrington Competition for Young Musicians and a BBC Young Musician finalist are teaming up for a performance at Holy Trinity Church.

Meera Maharaj and Hayley Parkes will be giving a free flute and piano recital at the Market Gate church on Saturday at 12.30pm.

The performance is part of the free WACIDOM (Warrington Arts Council Initiative for the Development of Music) recital series and will explore works ranging from Faure Sonata to David Heath's Out of the Cool.

Both musicians currently study at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester.

Meera, who attended Lymm High School, started her flute studies with Nicola Gerrard of High Legh before attending the Junior RNCM.

The Grappenhall resident is also a former member of the National Children’s and National Youth Orchestras of Great Britain.

She was principal flautist in the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth and Junior RNCM Symphony orchestras, National Children’s Wind Orchestra and National Youth Chamber Orchestra.

Meera, who won the Warrington Competition for Young Musicians in 2012, is also a keen chamber musician.

Her Junior RNCM wind quintet having been selected to represent the college in an exchange visit with the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.

Hayley studied at Chetham's School of Music and was recently a BBC Young Musician finalist.

She has performed as a soloist at Bridgewater Hall, The Sage in Gateshead and on BBC Radio and well as performances at BBC Proms and at the Royal Festival Hall.

Last year also saw Hayley perform at TedX in Liverpool, an event which brings together artists and innovators to discuss a diverse range of topics.
