A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD who played The Flight of the Bumblebee blindfolded for the Britain's Got Talent judges is to perform in Warrington on Saturday.

Leo Bailey-Yang appeared on the show on January 31 in front of a live audience in Manchester. He was given a 'yes' vote from all four judges and was described by Simon Cowell as the politest child they had ever had on the show.

Now the pianist is busy preparing for his grade 8 exam and if he can pass it this year he will become the world’s youngest to achieve it.

Leo will be at performing a free recital at Holy Trinity Church in Market Gate at 12.30pm on Saturday.

Norman Cutter, who organises the recitals as part of WACIDOM (Warrington Arts Council Initiative for the Development of Music), said: “It never ceases to amaze me how many talented musicians there are – but here is a really exceptional talent.

"To perform so brilliantly on the piano at the age of seven is incredible. It’s a wonder that he can even reach the pedals!”

Leo only started to learn piano in September 2013 and three months later received a distinction in the grade 1 exam.

He was immediately submitted for the grade 2 exam and gained another distinction. At this point his ability was recognised by piano teacher Simon Bottomley and he was moved ahead to playing grade 6 pieces.

Leo then won three gold medals in his first piano competition in Southport in October 2014 in the under 10s and under 14s categories as well as the open group which included adults.

When Leo was six he was flown out to Poland to take part in the International Chopin Festival and became the youngest winner of the Group II Repertoire, against all the music school students from across Europe.

Leo will be joined by Lucy Warm and Solomon-Miles Donnelly at the Holy Trinity Church recital.

Lucy, aged 13, has been a student at Chetham’s School of Music since September of 2012 and has won awards in the Ramsbottom Music Festival, Hazel Grove festival and the Yamaha competition.

Solomon-Miles, aged 13, a Chetham's student since September 2014, attended the Chopin piano competition in Poland and has played in several concerts in and around Warsaw.
