IF there was an Inbetweeners comedy check list then it would probably go something like this.

Awkward moments? Check. Jokes about Jay's imagined sexual encounters? Check. Puerile gags? Check. Gross out humour? Check. And jokes at the expense of Neil's dad and Will's mum? Check.

All are present and correct in the second Inbetweeners movie which sees Will (Simon Bird) struggling to fit in at uni while Jay (James Buckley) is in Australia to try and find his ex-girlfriend, Jane.

But what is really satisfying about the film is that rather than focus on the scenario, writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have returned to the show's roots.

It may be set down under but they have put nerdy Will, deluded Jay, goofy Simon and gormless Neil and their banter, mickey taking and natural chemistry at the forefront.

And that keeps the film ticking over when the plot becomes a bit formulaic as they try and find themselves on a backpacking holiday.

But fear not because there are all the usual laugh out loud moments from Jay's Peter Andre inspired car and Simon's accidental proposal to Neil's unfortunate encounter with a dolphin and Will's rape alarm.

Meanwhile, a scene at water park will make you never look at a waterslide in the same way again.
