COURTEENERS are following in the footsteps of Stone Roses after announcing their biggest UK headline show on home turf.

The Manchester band will play to 20,000 revellers at Heaton Park on June 5.

They will be the first band to headline the venue since the Stone Roses performed there in 2012 after their reunion gig at Warrington's Parr Hall.

Courteeners' gig announcement follows their highest charting album, Concrete Love and headline slots at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am – and you will have to be fast as the indie rockers' last Manchester gigs at the Castlefield Bowl in July sold out all 16,000 tickets in one day.

Courteeners formed in 2008 when singles What Took You So Long? and Not Nineteen Forever, reached the top 20 in the charts.

The songs were both produced by Stephen Street, who has worked with The Smiths, Morrissey and Blur. Their debut record, St Jude, also peaked at number four in the album charts.

Tickets cost £29.50 and go on sale at 9am on Friday. Visit gigsandtours.com/tour/courteeners. A full supporting bill will be announced nearer the time.
