FOO Fighters' new record, Sonic Highways, saw them hit the road to record eight songs in eight US capital cities.

But the band's road trip has not come to an end just yet after announcing a five-date UK tour next summer.

They perform at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on May 27.

Concept album Sonic Highways was recorded in Chicago, Washington, Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Seattle and New York as a 'love letter to the history of American music'.

The band also collaborated with a prominent musician from each of the eight cities when entering the studio.

The journey and the band's experiences have also been recorded in a documentary series which will be broadcast on BBC Four.

Foo Fighters was originally formed by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl in Seattle in 1994 as a one-man project in the wake of the death of Kurt Cobain.

Now a quintet, the band have gone on to sell more than 11 million albums and win numerous Brit and Grammy awards.

Foo Fighters' support act for the Manchester date has yet to be revealed but Iggy Pop and Royal Blood will be warming up the crowd at dates at Wembley and Edinburgh.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday, November 21, and are available from gigsandtours.com and ticketmaster.co.uk
