A MULTI award-winning choir have been hitting the right notes again.

Cheshire Chord Company won the coveted gold medal at the National Ladies' Barbershop Championships held in Harrogate.

It is the seventh time the Warrington chorus have achieved the accolade of 'British Champions' with the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS).

The group of 66 singers walked away with six trophies after competing against 26 other groups from across the UK and they were placed first in every category they were judged in, including music, presentation and singing.

They also won the newly presented 'Harmony Inspires' trophy for the highest placed chorus with the highest percentage of new members.

Wives, girlfriends and daughters of Bolton male voice choir Cottontown Chorus started Cheshire Chord Company in the backroom of the Jolly Thresher in Lymm in 1993. There were originally just 12 members.

Singers also travel from the Wirral, Liverpool, Chester and even North Wales to be part of the group and their youngest member is just 12.

Musical Director Jo Braham said: "We knew this would be a tough competition as the standard gets higher and higher each year.

"This pushes us to excel in the training we provide to our members and we even brought in some top coaching from the USA.

"We feel this really paid off in our preparation and I am thrilled at the results and overall achievement of all our singers”.

Cheshire Chord will be performing a joint charity fundraising concert with the Warrington Salvation Army Band on Saturday, November 22, at the Salvation Army building in Academy Street.
