STAND-UP comic Bobby Murdock continues his comedy column for Weekend.

This month, the Padgate resident talks about his 'Juan Liner' antics with Wire FM and his next gig at The Venue in Lymm.

AS you know, every month I will keep you informed about what's happening in the comedy world and also tell you a few gags while you are having your lunch or just chilling out while reading Warrington Guardian's fabulous entertainment section.

People may not realise this but over the last 12 months I have been working with Wire FM to provide comedy voice-overs and silly jokes and one-liners – or more accurately 'Juan-liners'.

Basically what I do is tell one-liners to unsuspecting people over the telephone in a Spanish accent, hence the name Juan Liner.

It has been tremendous fun and I have a great laugh. I love going into the studio, putting on the headset, picking up the telephone and having some banter with people.

Those that listen to the show on a regular basis are usually brilliant sports when I give them a call as 'Juan'.

Others don't have a clue what it's all about but I personally like those calls the best for all those awkward pauses and hang-ups.

We ring anyone and everyone to people at home, mums, dads, brothers, sisters, plumbers, joiners, mechanics, people at work and often people will 'set up' their friends and family.

So it goes a bit like this:

Phone rings

They pick up and say hello.

Then the whole Spanish persona kicks in.

'Hello is that June?'

'Yes'.

'Hello June, my name is Juan Liner and I am from Spain. June, if I said to you every time I leave my house I am followed by a bird with long legs would you say to me: 'I think you're being 'storked'?'

It's great banter and people's response to it has been fantastic.

The whole idea was devised by radio DJ Tony Horne, of Wire FM.

Tony's show is on every day from 10 am until 2pm on Monday to Friday and on Sundays from 8am until the afternoon. The Juan Liner phone calls are played throughout the show and now on Sundays.

It's been great working with Tony over the last 12 months and it's good partnership.

Next in the pipeline is for us to write a Juan Liner show which will be more character based when performed live in front of an audience.

Meanwhile, my next gig will be at The Venue in Lymm on Thursday, November 13, where I will hosting the show.

Opening the night will be Stephen Hayes who has more than 15 years' experience working as a stand-up comedian.

Headlining the show will be Danny Pensive, a top comedian who has had many TV appearances on ITV, Channel 4 as well as being involved with FHM's Stand-up Hero.

For tickets call 07748527601 or 756393.

Thank you for stopping by and I shall talk to you again next month.
