GHOULS and ghosts will soon be out for Halloween and the Warrington Guardian has joined in with the frightful festivities with the help of a gothic horror photographer.

The news team had a scare when they found out what they would look like if they were the monster in a classic Hammer Horror film.

Amanda Norman, who grew up in Birchwood, uses a Nikon D7100 camera and Adobe Photoshop CS, and with a few tweaks made us look like we were ready to star alongside Boris Karloff or Lon Chaney.

The former Padgate High School pupil started creating horror portraits in 2006 when she took a selfie and found her vampire alter ego.

"This lead me to start experimenting with friends and family and most times the results are amazing," said the 43-year-old who works as a compliance officer at Golden Square.

"The whole photo experience has to be fun, which allows the model to relax and start playing with different poses.

"The funniest occasion was my mother asking me who that hideous person was on my computer. It was a picture of her!

"Classic horror is about exploring our fears of the unknown. Do ghosts and vampires exist? Can people be possessed by demons?

"Personally, I’m happy enough left just wondering about these from the other side of the silver screen. Films from 30 years ago were amazing as they didn’t have the technology of CGI to enhance them to scare people.

"These films relied on effective lighting, good acting and most importantly, a good musical score to intensify the build up to those most frightening scenes with sharp sound effects that leave our hearts in our mouths. "
