Not quite the full Monty ...

Travelling to Work tour marks the publication of Python star’s third volume of his acclaimed diaries

ACCLAIMED actor, writer and comedian Michael Palin has announced his first one man tour, and will be taking to the stage this autumn.

The Travelling to Work tour covers 21 venues across the UK, ending up at the Manchester Opera House on September 29 and Liverpool Echo Arena on October 11 and marks the publication of the third volume of the Monty Python star’s diaries.

Palin will share with the audience the highs and lows of his lengthy career in the public eye, complete with photographs and footage taken from his eight popular BBC travel series including Around the World in 80 Days, New Europe and Brazil.

The household name has reserved the second half of the show to share with the audience his love of comedy.

Palin will discuss his joy of writing and acting which led him to play a role in writing critically acclaimed sketches such as Monty Python’s Spanish Inquisition.

Palin has spoke of his excitement of the forthcoming tour: He said: “The diaries cover an extraordinarily busy time of my life.

“I was trying things I’d never done before, pushing myself beyond the predictable to novels and plays and a whole new career as a television traveller.

“I like to think the tour is the same spirit of adventure and experiment.

“It will be my first solo tour and I see it as a chance to meet audiences all over the country and talk about the only consistent thread in my working life – the irresistible urge to do something completely different.”

Awarded a CBE in 2000 and with more than 50 years experience in radio, television, books and film, Palin is quite the veteran in the industry, so it came as no surprise when he was awarded the BAFTA Fellowship in 2013.

Tickets for the Liverpool and Manchester shows are available from the websites and box offices of both venues.
