EXPERIENCING Buena Vista Social Club in a live setting is like learning a valuable lesson about the international language of music.

Playing at the superior Bridgewater Hall venue, the Cuban throng of esteemed musicians enthralled an appreciative audience on what became a memorable night.

"It was truly something to behold as the veteran artists flaunted their peerless musicianship, which was met with rousing applause and dancing in the aisles."

Despite speaking and singing almost entirely in Spanish, a bond was shared that evening between Buena Vista and Bridgewater. The power of music had transcended any cultural and social disparities and left nothing but warm affection in the air.

It was truly something to behold as the veteran artists flaunted their peerless musicianship, which was met with rousing applause and dancing in the aisles.

Buena Vista Social Club's Latin American sound is something you might associate with the vivid memories of discovering the unknown on holiday. But, of course, it represents much more than that - the band has a rich heritage dating back to the 1940s.

Lost in the sands of time, the group was finally rediscovered in the 1990s by American guitarist Ry Cooder. Sadly, many members of the original line-up like Ibrahim Ferrer and Compay Segundo have died but the torch has been passed to a new generation.

Perhaps this represents the eternal appeal of Buena Vista Social Club because that night they were as popular and prolific as ever.
