YOU are spoilt for choice with good restaurants in Lymm.

But one that is slightly tucked away just outside of the village centre is The Lymm Hotel.

This is a great time to rediscover the Whitbarrow Road hotel's The Inn at The Lymm with the recent launch of a new menu.

Head chef Mark Burke and his team present a range of classic and contemporary dishes which are immaculately presented.

The Lymm Hotel also serves only the best Scottish beef and lamb and wild white fish and sources organic suppliers for its vegetables and dairy products.

We were also made to feel welcome from the outset and the dining area has a relaxed feel due to its proximity to the informal bar.

To start, I had the baked bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The emphasis here was on freshness and a sprinkle of sea salt also gave it extra oomph.

My partner had the tomato-based soup of the day which was overly hot but otherwise had a good depth of flavour and was generously portioned.

Both were admittedly modest-sized starters but proved an appropriate choice given the feast that was to come.

It was a Friday evening and I wanted to indulge so I went for 21-day aged Scottish sirloin steak.

There are plenty of extras too which are decadent but worth it so I had it topped with blue cheese and with a béarnaise sauce.

The rich sauce and thick cut chips perfectly complemented the succulent steak that came prepared just as I asked for it (medium rare).

My partner is a vegetarian so went for a meal at the other end of the scale – red wine poached pear, chicory and black sticks blue cheese salad – but was equally impressed.

She described it as being a generous portion and that the delicious combination was beautifully presented.

Make sure you leave room for desserts too because our white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake and chocolate pot with crunchy 'chocolate soil' were amazing.

From the snazzy, contemporary presentation to the taste, both dishes were close to perfect.
