THE UK'S only urban food and film festival comes to Liverpool from March 19 to 22.

Curated by food enterprise Squash Nutrition, the Food For Real Film Festival seeks to explore the environmental, cultural and political impacts of the foods we grow, eat, waste and share in an accessible way.

Spread across four days, the free event will see cinemas, eateries, gardens and even the city’s streets play host to an eclectic programme of more than 30 food-related films and documentaries.

There will also be a host of talks, hands-on activities, workshops and tastings for all the family.

Highlights of this year’s festival include the UK premiere of Breastmilk the Movie which aims to remove the stigma of breastfeeding in public.

A major highlight is Disco-Scouse. Dust off those dancing shoes and wooden spoons for a joyful combination of dance and cookery – all set against a soundtrack from live DJs.

This event will see a team of volunteer cooks make a tasty veggie meal for up to 500 diners – from food which would have otherwise gone on to be landfill.

Disco-Scouse is based on, Disco-Soupe a campaign which takes positive action against food waste, which began in Germany and now active across the world.

Film fans will enjoy the Taiwanese culinary rom-com The Moveable Feast while those who enjoy the outdoors will experience a day of foraging, open air food and meandering in Toxteth to celebrate the Spring Equinox.

Workshops include everything from mask making to producing Korean cabbage kimchi. This year also features the first Food for Real Film Awards.
