IF tequila is more your thing than beer or gin then you should head to Manchester on Saturday, August 26.

A festival dedicated to the spirit is being held at Bowlers Exhibition Centre from 1pm until 11pm including a full day of Mexican-themed music, piñatas and processions.

Guests will be handed a complimentary shot on arrival as well as a ‘tequila bible’ to guide them through more than 30 tequilas to try in cocktails and slammers.

The Wine and Spirit Trade Association recently reported UK sales have surged over the last two years, particularly of premium brands, rising by 37 per cent to £173million in 2016.

It’s become so popular that some of the biggest names in entertainment have their own tequila brands, such as Justin Timberlake’s ‘Sauza 901’, George Clooney’s ‘Casamigos’.

Nathan Reed, Tequila Festival organiser, said: “Tequila is a drink that is associated with a great party all across the world.

“However, it is also now being recognised as a more sophisticated, crafted drink.

“The festival will celebrate the remarkable diversity and history of this wonderful drink.”
