Hello and welcome to my comedy corner.

This month I want to speak about the community spirit that we have created around our comedy night in Padgate

As some of you may already know I travel up and down the country travelling to comedy clubs right as a performer

I enjoy it a lot but there’s also a fair bit of anticipation when you’re not on home turf and you’re not sure what the audience and venue is going to be like.

It sounds glamorous but, trust me, it’s not sometimes. I’ve been to all kinds of different green rooms over the years.

I’ve sat backstage on a beer barrel, beanbags, old battered couches that look like they have come out of a skip.

At one venue they didn’t even have a green room at all – performers were expected to get ready in a caravan.

So it’s nice to be doing something back in Warrington this month.

I have created a little comedy club that is now in its third year in sunny Padgate.

We have created a real community spirit with people supporting the show at Padgate Community Centre, next door to the train station on Station Road

I have brought performers to this venue from all levels of the circuit and at our last performance before Christmas we had Jonny Awsum who is a good friend of mine and recently performed on the TV finals of Britain’s Got Talent.

The show was packed and anybody that was there can tell you it was a uniquely enjoyable night of entertainment

I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved with Padgate residents supporting the show and it’s nice to give another function to this lovely little venue which is already used for so many different things from play groups to karate.

The next comedy night in Padgate is on Saturday, February 24 so why not come and join us?

We will have top quality professional performers including yours truly as host.

Opening the show is good friend of mine, Steve Shanyaski from Oldham

This guy is just funny side-splittingly funny. Steve works all over the UK and internationally and is not to be missed.

Also performing on the night we have Lindsey Santoro from the Midlands.

Lindsey is just simply brilliant with a unique brand of humour.

The final act I’ve got lined up for the evening will be Alex Boardman who’s a brilliant story and gag teller and has awesome stage presence.

Thank you for reading my column and if you’ve enjoyed it I would love you to come along to the show. For tickets please visit our Facebook page by searching for Who Dares Grins or go to our website at whodaresgrins.com

FUN FACT

In showbusiness, the green room is the space in a theatre or similar venue that functions as a waiting room and lounge for performers before and after a performance.

Green rooms typically have seating for the performers, such as upholstered chairs and sofas.

The origin of the term is thought to come from the fact that such rooms were historically painted green.
