AFTER the sad news this week Dingle Farm Tea Room in Appleton was set to close on January 29, we thought we would take a look at readers' suggestions during last year's afternoon tea category at our Warrington Guardian Food and Drink Awards.

Dingle Farm had made it into our top five after one reader described it as 'Warrington's very own treasure'.

But the building is now set to be converted back into housing.

Here's what our afternoon tea winner had to say after being handed the title in June last year.

FAVOURITE AFTERNOON TEA IN THE WARRINGTON GUARDIAN FOOD AND DRINK AWARDS

Winner: The Singing Kettle Travelling Tea Room

Warrington Guardian:

ANYA Pearce has proven that you can have your cake and eat it after her business The Singing Kettle Travelling Tea Room was voted Warrington’s

Favourite Afternoon Tea by sweet-toothed Warrington Guardian readers.

The teacher had always dreamed of owning her own tea room after enjoying afternoon teas with her grandmother in Blackpool.

“It’s a long-time dream come true,” says Tanya.

“When I was 15 I said to a friend ‘I’m going to own a tea room one day.’ I even found an old diary recently and got emotional as I’d said the same thing in that.

“I always knew I’d call it The Singing Kettle. I remembered going to Blackpool with my nan and loving a café we visited with the same name.”

Tanya’s unique mix of quirky vintage caravan, afternoon teas and singing has been a real hit since it launched at Croft Youth Activity Centre in August.

Her launch party was so well received that Tanya is practically booked up for the rest of the year.

The new mum even launched her business when she was nine months pregnant.

She said: “I thought it’s now or never if I want my dream to come true.”

Tanya can take her business wherever it is required. Her vintage ‘shabby chic’ caravan is a star itself with customers enjoying it as a focal point at their events.

“The caravan is ready to create something special wherever it goes,” said Tanya, who was inspired by a tea tasting caravan she spotted on Pintrest.

“It’s not just about the afternoon tea it’s the whole experience. I thrive on making it a memorable and special experience for my customers. I like to treat them like royalty.

“Not one of my events has been the same. I liaise with my customers to achieve their perfect event.”

Her afternoon teas are a mix of scones with clotted cream and jam, sandwiches and cakes served on mismatched plates and cups.

Lemon drizzle and Victoria sponge being a favourite among customers. Tanya’s friend also makes little pots of chutney to go with the savouries.

Tanya would love to have a regular spot for the Singing Kettle where she could spread out picnic blankets for customers.

But for now, she has plans for a singagram service.
