STAR of the Steven Spielberg produced cult classic Gremlins, Zach Galligan, is in the north west today, Friday, as part of a special screening.

The 1984 monster movie Gremlins has been re-released in select cinemas and Zach will be hosting a Q&A as part of tonight's screening at Light Cinema Stockport at 8pm.

Limited tickets are still available.

Following the one-off screening, Zach, who played the main character Billy Peltzer will be answering questions from the audience on the making of Gremlins, how he got cast, the impact on his life and why he thinks the film has had such longevity.

The 80s horror comedy is about cute creatures called mogwais who turn into devilish gremlins if they eat after midnight.

He told the Warrington Guardian: "Apparently I was one of the only people involved in the film who really thought from the get-go that it was going to be guaranteed hit.

"Everybody else was a lot more sceptical but Steven Spielberg put his name prominently on the poster so it was clear that he really liked this project and wanted to be some part of it.

"For example he cast me and Phoebe (Cates). He had the casting approval on the two leads and he was responsible for shaping the script and a lot of the key ideas that went into the film."

Zach will also be sharing what he knows about the planned Gremlins 3. He might even be bringing his mogwai sidekick Gizmo along (who will only come out when the lights are dimmed of course).

He said: "The only thing I can tell you is that it's been written.

"The first time someone asked me about Gremlins 3 was in 1992 so there's been a quarter of a century of speculation about it. I'd like to do it if only just to get people to stop asking me about it.

"Gremlins 2 bombed and Hollywood hates failure but it's fair to say the internet revived interest in Gremlins in around 2005 or 2006. It's took on this mega classic status and I think it's got to the stage where Warner Bros started saying: 'This is getting ridiculous. We have to do something about this'."

Jamie Pitt Business Manager at Light Cinema Stockport added: “This is such a great way to mark our first few opening weeks. We have all the latest films plus we are bringing a much loved Christmas classic to a new generation. We are delighted to welcome Zach to Stockport."
